Donald Trump's Regime of Consequences and Incentives

Trump's intense appetite for revenge has quickly morphed into a methodical framework. Over the year since his election, the leader's fury and whims have taken on the form of administrative measures in a manner analogous to historical repressive governments. Justice department officials who do not cooperate are promptly removed and succeeded by supporters. Political leaders who confront him risk legal action, trial and punishment. Opponents have been designated under administration orders as “hostile to national interests”, “opposed to religious values” and “anti-capitalist”, and warned with legal action as “extremists”.

Federal Agencies Restructured

Every situation involving legal action of critics and immunity for loyalists displays its own unique features. Yet, despite their specific character, they embody manifestations of what has developed as a calculated method. These episodes are far from random. His cleansing of Department of Justice prosecutors and FBI officials, accompanied by his appointment of devotees in senior roles, commenced rapidly, quickly assumed a regularity, and has now been shaped into a regime. The justice department and the law enforcement agency have been transformed into political bodies under his direct command to carry out his demands. Injustice has been turned into normal. It constitutes the retribution system.

Administration is more concerned with penalizing the leader's supposed opponents than they are with defending our public welfare.

Inside the System

The foundation of this mechanism has been exposed in the legal complaint of three previous high-ranking Federal Bureau executives lodged in late summer in the US district court in Washington against FBI director an administration figure and attorney general a key figure for wrongful dismissal in “a effort of retribution against them for what Defendants considered to be a refusal to show proper political loyalty”. According to the filing that a former acting director, the previous temporary head, details a conversation in which Patel “openly acknowledged the illegality of his actions”.

He had sought to shield FBI agents from being fired, the complaint claims. He advised him that “White House figures” – understood by him to be the executive branch and DoJ – had directed him to dismiss anyone who they determined as having been involved in a legal probe against him. The filing adds: “Patel clarified that he had to fire the personnel his bosses told him to fire, because his ability to hold his own job relied on the removal of the agents who handled matters involving the leader. Patel explained that there was no way he or him could do to halt these or any other dismissals, because ‘the FBI sought to put the chief in jail and he hasn't forgotten it.’” Once Driscoll informed him he was disregarding the agency's own internal rules, the director supposedly said “he recognized that and he knew the nature of the swift terminations were likely illegal”.

Broad Impact

Following the director's claimed admission to him, the justice department and the FBI have been dismantled and reorganized for his revenge apparatus. Several of the agency's top officials were terminated or compelled to leave in the initial period of the presidency. Approximately numerous professional attorneys at the justice department have taken a “early exit scheme”. No fewer than multiple DoJ lawyers, including those in the southern district of New York, stepped down in protest over what they considered as partisan influence in abandoning the criminal prosecution against the New York City mayor, a political figure, in return for his assistance with Trump's Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrests of immigrants. The ethics division of DoJ, which handles corruption cases, has been reduced to minimal staff. The civil rights division has been decimated: 70% of its staff has departed. A third of top officials at DoJ have resigned. The unit implementing environmental law has lost a majority its management.

Rewards and Sanctions

Regarding the legal matter, the temporary lawyer for the federal division, the official, resigned in objection against what she characterized as the “trade-off”. Tom Homan, the president's “border czar,” showed up as the implementer with him on a media outlet to declare: “If he doesn't come through, I'll reappear in New York City.”. Meanwhile, a former official, previously the justice department figure and a ex-lawyer, who negotiated the arrangement, was awarded an judicial position, a potential pathway to the judicial branch.

The president's exemption for wrongdoings perpetrated while in government, provided by the extraordinary ruling of the Republican majority on the highest court, thus preventing his prosecution over the January 6 insurrection and preserving his public standing for the presidential race, is the cornerstone on which he relies to defend his loyalists. With such immunity, he has been liberated to permit misconduct. The effect of the court judgment saturates his presidency and the Republican Party completely. Trump v United States has escalated. As a past leader's White House counsel he said about the Watergate
