The total count of lives lost from the UPS cargo plane which burst into flames and went down has now climbed to 13, per latest announcements.
Mayor's Remarks
Traveling to the Teamsters’ candlelight gathering, I received word of a 13th person that died as a result of the plane incident,” expressed the municipal leader in a social media post. “My thoughts are with the loved ones, associates and co-workers of all who were taken in this week’s calamity. We will endure this together.”
Victims Confirmed
An announcement from the company identified the flight crew on board the McDonnell Douglas MD-11 as Captain Richard Wartenberg, Co-pilot Lee Truitt, and Relief Captain Dana Diamond.
“Our thoughts are extended to each UPSer who has been touched and all in our community community – assisting you and guaranteeing you receive the attention and resources you need is our main concern,” the firm’s message read.
Probe Updates
Federal officials disclosed that the jet’s port side wing ignited and an power plant detached shortly after takeoff from the aviation hub, resulting in the jet to fall and erupt into a fireball.
The National Transportation Safety Board announced it is examining the jet’s service record, that was in Texas for maintenance several weeks prior to the crash.
Flight tracking data revealed the plane was on the ground in the Texas city from early September to 18 October.
“We are knowledgeable that this aircraft was there in that city,” stated an official on later, without a specific date range. “We will look at every piece of maintenance that was completed, from the repair visit, straight to the time of the journey.”
Findings of Critical Items
The pilot’s recorder and information unit were recovered, and the engine was discovered on the airfield.
The recorders – called data containers – were built to withstand accident forces and extreme temperatures from infernos, and they looked to be in one piece when found among the wreckage. Investigators plan on examining data from the recorders.
Aircraft’s last flight details showed an altitude of 475 ft and a rate of that speed before the impact.
Maintenance Record
Per aviation authority records dated last month, a fracture on a component inside the tank area needed repairs.
Headquartered in Singapore ST Engineering, which stated it offers airframe maintenance for the company’s jet and operates a service location in Texas, declined to comment, but expressed it would cooperate fully when investigators contacted it.
Activities Continue
In the meantime, the facility operations resumed last night with its Next Day Air also known as nighttime procedure, spokesperson a representative said. The three runways at Louisville Muhammad Ali international airport were also open again.
The UPS package handling facility in the city is the firm’s most significant. The hub engages more than twenty thousand people in the locality, manages three hundred flights each day and sorts in excess of 400,000 items each hour.
Local Reaction
A candlelight vigil was held on the night of that date by the area worker’s group, which represents workers at the aviation hub, the firm’s largest air cargo hub.
The union chapter, which supports employees, began the vigil with a quiet tribute at 5.14pm, the rough time of the crash two days earlier.
“This incident was so unexpected, so surprising,” the leader told the group of 200. “No one had a opportunity to part to any one of those who we have said farewell to.”
